Background of the Study
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) refers to the ethical obligations of businesses to contribute positively to society and the environment, beyond the pursuit of profit. In many developing regions, CSR has become an essential tool for companies to demonstrate environmental stewardship and contribute to sustainable development. Kaduna North LGA, as one of the industrial hubs in Kaduna State, is home to several businesses whose operations have significant environmental implications. This study will assess the role of CSR in environmental protection in the region, focusing on how local businesses have implemented CSR initiatives to address environmental issues such as pollution, deforestation, and waste management (Sule & Habibu, 2025).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing recognition of CSR, there is a lack of detailed assessments regarding the impact of these initiatives on environmental protection in Kaduna North. While some businesses have initiated programs aimed at reducing their environmental footprint, their effectiveness in addressing local environmental challenges remains unclear. This study will explore the extent to which CSR efforts contribute to improving environmental conditions in Kaduna North LGA.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
• To assess the role of CSR in environmental protection in Kaduna North Local Government Area.
• To evaluate the effectiveness of CSR initiatives in addressing environmental issues such as pollution and deforestation.
• To provide recommendations for enhancing the role of CSR in promoting environmental sustainability in Kaduna North.

1.5 Research Hypothesis
• H1: CSR initiatives have contributed to the improvement of environmental conditions in Kaduna North.
• H2: The environmental impact of CSR initiatives in Kaduna North is limited by factors such as lack of enforcement and inadequate resources.
• H3: Expanding and strengthening CSR activities will lead to greater improvements in environmental sustainability in Kaduna North.
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will shed light on the effectiveness of CSR in addressing environmental challenges in Kaduna North LGA, providing valuable insights for businesses, policymakers, and environmental advocates. By identifying the strengths and weaknesses of existing CSR initiatives, the study will contribute to the development of strategies for enhancing corporate involvement in environmental protection (Sule & Habibu, 2025).
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on CSR initiatives by businesses in Kaduna North LGA and their impact on local environmental protection efforts. Limitations may include challenges in accessing information from private companies and measuring the direct impact of CSR programs on environmental outcomes.
